Macra Na Feirme Exhibition

MACRA Na FEIRME Exhibition will officially be opened on Monday 14th September at 8 p.m. by AnnaMay McHugh. The running dates of the exhibition is Monday 14th – Fri 25th September it will be held in the Athy Heritage Centre and Museum.

Opening hours Mon to Fri 10 – 5 and during the 3 days of the Ploughing Championship, the opening hours will be extended to 8 pm.
Through graphic display boards, artefact, photographys and other memorabilia, the exhibition will bring to the forefront the contribution and legacy the farming community has imprinted on the land. It will highlight the fact that the first ploughing championship was held in Athy 30 years ago, that the establishment of Macra Na Feirme and its first headquarters which were located in Town Hall of Athy now the Heritage Centre & Museum took place here. Also that the Irish Farmer’s Journal was started in 1948 by Stephen Cullinane from his private rooms at Crown House Duke St and that in 1955 the National Farmers Association was launched by Macra Na Feirme and by its first President, Doctor John Greene of Kilkea.
